Be A Secret Santa Through The Christmas Giving Tree
Names are hanging on the
Christmas "Giving Tree" lo-
cated in the Social Services
office at the Montrose County
Courthouse in Nucla and
"secret Santas" can pick a tag
(or two or three) and make
"Homeless"
continued from page 1
is made. At the present time
the legalities of storing the
UMTRA material at Uravan
still are being worked on by
the US Department of Energy
and Umetco. According to
DOE's Naturita Site Manager
Woody Woodruff. ff all the t's
are dotted and the rs crossed
in a timely manner, the
material can be stored at
Uravan. Otherwise, steps will
be taken to begin preparing
the Dry Flats site to accept
the material.
Stanford sald they are just
wrapping up the sixth VP
(vicinity property) and al-
though there are about 25
remaining, they probably
won't do any more work on
those during the winter
months. Invirex is "decon-
ning" {decontaminating) the
last of their equipment from
the demolition at the VCA
just about everything but the
name - and the secret Santa
can enjoy picking out some-
thing very special for that
child, wrap it up, and put the
tag (or a tag with the child's
number on it) and return it to
Social Services by the
December 19 deadline. The
anonymous gift is then given
to the proper child in time for
the big day.
The joy of giving makes
Christmas more meaningful
for the giver and makes the
holiday more special for the
recipient. Bring the true
meaning of the season into
your lives and make a child's
eyes sparkle on Christmas
morning.

day evening.
Christmas a merrier one for
some child in the area who
might not receive a gift other-
wise.
The tags tell lots about the
youngster - age. clothing
sizes, interests, preferences,
mill site prior to moving down
to Uravan to begin demo
work there for Umetco.
MK-Ferguson Is shooting
for a March start-up again to
remove the material to
Uravan if that site is ap-
proved. In that event. "we
could complete the haul In
one season", Stanford said.
However. if the Uravan
facility is not approved and
the Dry Flats site is desig-
nated, the work won't be
complete until the end of Fall
1997.
MK-Ferguson just moved
into new offices located at the
current storage location
north of the old mill site, and
Stanford said he and all the
staff really appreciated the
accommodations they had at
the Ray Motel during the past
eight months. "They were
extra-good landlords." he
said.
