West-End School Board OK's New Vehicle Fee Schedule
After quite a hit of work on
the part of the administrative
staff, a revised rate schedule
for use of school district
vehicles was approved by the
West End School Board at
the October 18 meeting.
The new rates which would
be charged to community
groups and student groups
{other than for school-related
or Distrlct-approved func-
tions) is 20 cents per mile,
plus fuel. for automobiles: 30
cents per mile. plus fuel. for
vans; and 81.00 per mile (in-
cluding driving) for buses.
Rates are subject to change
and organizations are
responsible for paying any
standby time required of the
driver.
The board postponed ac-
ting on a number of policies
in order to allow more t/me to
review the proposed policies.
An evaluation format for sup-
port staff was approved by
the board, as was approval of
District participation in a
cafeteria plan through
Franklin Life.
A letter of resignation from
Valerle Castle as NHS Com-
puter/ Distance Learning
Aide was accepted. The board
approved Patty Riley as a
substitute custodian and
Dlanne Robuck as a sub-
stitute teacher for the lgg4-
05 school year.
A report was made to the
board regarding the State Ac-
countability Conference.

Superintendent of Schools
Phyllis Harrison reported
that the UMTRA remedlatlon
at Nucla Elementary School
has been signed off now. with
the final totals agreeable to
both the District and MK-
Ferguson: Dr. Annette
Cooper of Fort Lewis College
was to meet with the NES
teachers to develop the scope
and sequence of the math
curriculum: eight teachers
attended the Math Con-
ference in Denver: she and
Dr. Mahaney and Dr.
Graybeal were going to
Durango to observe the
gifted/talented program in
the schools: and a substRute

teacher training session is
scheduled for October 28.
In the principals' reports.
Dr. Mahaney noted that she
is working with the Family
Link on a grant for art educa-
tion through the Goals 2000.
with the first phase being
planning money. Dr.
Graybeal reported the high
school football field was "on
llne" with the raw water It-
rlgatlon system and there
seems to be sufficient pres-
sure to rnn slx heads at once:
the Back-to-School night at
Nucla High School was suc-
cessful: four students at-
tended the State Student
Council workshop earlier in
October: PSAT's were ad-
ministered on October 11
and the ACT's on October 21:
Mr. Brookfleld presented the
board with copies of the first
two editions of Naturita Mid-
dle School's newspaper: first-
year teacher evaluations
have been completed: and a
new daily schedule is being
addressed to lengthen core
classes in the second
semester.
The board will meet next on
Tuesday. November 15. at
7:30 p.m.
