The 1972 swimming season
came toa conclusion when the
West End Piranhas brought
home 40 medals from the meet
held at the Western State
College Pool.
Two Piranha team members,
Traci Rosenzweig and Janice
Schierman, qualified for the
state meet held at the Ter-
race Club Pool in Denver,
where Traci placed 4th in the
50 meter breast stroke and
Janice placed 7th in the 100
meter back stroke and 8th in
the 50 meter free style.
Piranha team members
placing in the Gunnison meet
included:
Dale Williams who placed
5th in the 100 yd. back stroke
and 6th in the 100 yd. breast
stroke in the 15 to 17 year
old boys group.
S heryl Bean placed 5th in
the 100 yd. back stroke in the
13 to 14 year old girls group.
In the 13 to 14 year old
boys group, Mike Nylund
placed 4th in the 100 yd. back
stroke, 4th in the 100 yd.
butterfly stroke.
Mike Nylund, Kevin Rear-
don and Marty Pollard also
placed 4th in the 200 yd. free
stroke relay and 5th in the
200 yd. medly relay.
In the 11 to 12 year oM
girls class, Janice Schierman
placed 1st in the 100 yd.
breust stroke and 2nd in the
i00 yd. free style.
Katy Nylund placed 5th in
the 50 yd. free style and 4th
in the 100 yd. back stroke.
In the 11 to 12 year old
boys group, Clinton Church
placed 4th in the 200 yd. in-
dividual medal and 5th in the
100 yd. butterfly.
Clinton Church, Lon Rosen-
zweig, Richard McKendrick
and Jerry Williams placed 6th
in the 200 yd. free style relay
and 6th in the 200 yd. medly
relay.
In the 10 and under girls
group, Susan Nylund placed
2nd in the 50 yd. free style
6th in the 50 yd. breaststroke
and 2nd in the 100 yd. free
style.
Cindy Nylund placed 2nd
in the 50 yd. breast stroke
and 4th in the 100 yd. free
style.
Traci Rosenzweig placed
1st in the 50 yd. breast stroke
and 3rd in the 100 yd. indivi-
dual medal and 4th in the 50
yd. butterfly.
Greg Schierman placed 5th
in the 50 yd. free style in the
10 years and under ~oys
group.
This season included eight
meets for the Piranhas, all
AAUsanctioned, held in Glen-
wood Springs, Uravan, Delta,
Durango, Meeker, Montrose,
Grand Junction and Gunnison.
A fund drive is now being
held by the Piranhas to col-
lect aluminum and steel cans.
The proceeds will help pay
costs involved in traveling to
the meets.
Shower Honors
Penny Waid
Miss Penny Waid was guest
of honor at a bridal shower
held Monday evening, August
1, at the R.E.A. Building.
Hostesses, Darlene and
Kay Reeves, used the bride-
elect's colors of pink and
purple in the decorations.
Debbie Waid and Darlene
I Reeves assisted at the gift
table and Kay Reeves was in
charge of the gift book.
Cake, punchand coffee were
served for refreshments.
