Life Stops For Friends, Family
Until Missing Ones Are Found
Suddenly they are missing.
Someone you know, a person you love. Gone. Without
explanation.
The first question is, why? Then, what could have hap-
pened? and when? and how could this be? Finally, all that is
left to ask is-- where are they?
Someone missing is worse than being left orhurt by
someone you care about. Worse, because life stops for
friends and family until the missing person in their life is
found.
I have dealt with covering a few missing persons from
this area over the years. Some of them I knew, some I did-
n't. But the reactions from those close to them is always
panic numbed by wonder, hope lessened by fears often
imagining the worst. Lives are put on hold second by sec-
end as they deal with the biggest question "one always has
for another: are they okay?
And while we all wait for that answer, we remember
and think about the one missing.
I was getting to know Dale Williams, though I knew
him for years casually as he occasionally fixed my dented
vehicles, and I sold him advertising now and then.
But when I went through a personal crisis last year, it
was Dale Williams who stepped forffard to help. He board-
ed up my windows without being asked, and he and his
wife, Diana, moved their videos out from one side of their
building so I Could have a place to continue this newspaper.
He told me not to worry about payments right away and
from time to time he checked in to see how I was doing.
I finally asked him why. He did not tell me the first
and real reason for helping me. I knew it was because I
needed him. He stammered for words and said something
about this newspaper doing a story on him about fifteen
years ago when an explosion hurt him. He said the article
brought him help at a time of personal crisis in his life.
During some late night visits at our places of business,
Dale began to reveal, priorities in his life, like family and
friends. He was always concerned that people be happy and
okay with themselves and others. He spoke often of friends
needing to be free from all the problems of life. He was
committed to do what he could for others, even if it was
small. But the greatest thing I found Dale doing was accept-
ing others without judgement and taking the time to do what
he could for anyone in need.
He never asked or answered private questions. Nor did
he seek or offer information to clear up vicious rumors
about himself, me, or others. He never criticized, except
himself, and that for not being able to do enough for others.
He was always busy, but never so much that he didn't
have time for me or anyone else who wondered in his shop.
Last week, in one of his busy moments of fixing a threading
machine and a vehicle on the rack, he stopped and found me
a piece of glass for a desk top. When he was finished cut-
ting, sanding and cloning it, I presumptuously told him to
bill me. He said he wouldn't. He said the glass was given to
him and he was giving it to me.
Dale, to me, was becoming the person who visited
those facing los= and in need, and he was the person who
'truly portrayed the one with a cold cup of water for those
needing a drink.
Whatever happened to Dale for whatever reason, I
hope wh='ever he is-- all is well with his soul.

Upon further investiga-
tion, the Naturita Board last
Tuesday, May 25, after re-hiring
and firing several times in the
last month, voided John Radan's
dog catching contract as he did
not have the required insurance.
The board also is consid-
ering for public hearing and
adoption a grease trap ordi-
nance. A public hearing date on
the ordinance is expected at the
next meeting. The ordinance
will require that no industrial
discharges will be allowed into
the towr 's sewer system, which
would require grease traps, for
example, in such businesses as
restata'ants. (See page 11).
The board passed a
motion to increase the
Community Building rates.
Residents will now pay $50 per
day and be required to deposit
$50, the cleaning and damage
deposit being refunded after
use. For use of the kitchen,
another $50 per day will be
charged. The board will also be
doing away with memberships
as of January 1, 2000. The per
day fee was increased by $25 a

One day I watched a potter work-
ing at his wheel. He was putting
the finishing touches on a vase. It
was hard to believe he had started
with a shapeless mass of clay.
When he looked up I asked,
"Where's the pattern?"
=In my heart," he answered.
Just so, God, the Master Potter,
has a plan in His heart for your life.
You're not an accident, /ou're an
incident. You're not irrelevant,
you're important. You're not a car-
bon copy, you're somebody spe-
cial.
Let God have your mind to think
through, your heart to k ve through,
your body to live through and you'll
find His wonderful plan for your life.
